What is Marriage and Family Therapy?

The Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy counselling program equips graduates with a solid understanding of evidence-based treatment. Hundreds of clinical hours prepare students to help heal individuals within the context of complex relationships. Educated with a sound biblical perspective, each graduate is eligible towards registration as a CAMFT Registered Marriage & Family Therapist (RMFT) or a Registered Clinical Counsellor in BC.

Why study Marriage & Family Therapy at ACTS Seminaries?

The MA in Marriage & Family Therapy program at ACTS is the only provincially approved graduate program in Marriage & Family Therapy in BC, and one of three graduate MFT programs in Canada. Our curriculum is modeled closely upon respected AAMFT standards and focuses on leading evidence-based research and theoretical models, e.g. John Gottman, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and the Satir model. Additionally, the MFT program provides a theologically integrative framework for professional and spiritual formation.

Our key program focuses help you become a Christian counsellor who is:

  1.   Professional prepared

  2.   Clinically competent

  3.   Spiritually integrated

  4.   Experientially transformed

Does the MFT curriculum prepare me for professional practice?

MFT graduates will meet or exceed educational requirements to apply for professional credentialing with the BCACC, the Canadian Counseling and Psychotherapy Association for Marriage & Family Therapy, and the American Association for Marriage & Family Therapy (AAMFT). Students complete 350 client contact hours plus 194 hours of clinical supervision.
