ABOUT BERNARD

Bernard serves as the Dean of Canadian Baptist Seminary as well as the District Minister of the British Columbia Baptist Conference. He has extensive missionary, teaching, and pastoral experience in Zambia, Holland, and Canada. His passion is to empower churches to fulfill the great commission and the great commandment in their communities and beyond. In his spare time, Bernard loves to take walks, hike, golf and read.

How does the Bible inform your life and teaching?
I believe in the authority of scripture as the word of God. Therefore, my life is dependent on it. My teaching is based on the Bible. I contextualize the Word of God to speak in every situation.

Why do you value a theological education?
Theological education solidifies people's faith in Christ. It makes it possible to reflect on one's divine encounter in order to make it personal. It helps in responding to current issues that affect human beings. We learn how the Christian community responded to their contemporary issues.

What are some of the diverse voices you incorporate into your teaching?
I incorporate theologians from various nationalities, and secular thinkers. This helps students understand how individuals respond to life's issues and what informs them. This then is compared to how a biblical worldview informs and guides us in responding to life's issues.

What do you hope your students get out of your classes?
I hope they will solidify their faith in Christ as they understand the reliability of God's Word. They can then serve their communities from a biblical worldview.

Why are you at ACTS Seminaries?
Because I believe in the vision and mission of the school. The idea of the consortium also interests me as we can learn from one another.
