About ACTS Seminaries

ACTS Seminaries is an educational meeting place where faculty and students come together in the conviction that more can be learned through cooperation than in isolation. With multiple denominations and cultures under one roof, you get a front-row seat as followers of Jesus from different traditions to think together about what it means to follow Christ. This creates a learning environment that welcomes and engages multiple perspectives, helping you become more fully aware and engaged in your own church. As a result, you are better able to serve wherever God has called you.

We are a partnership of four denominational seminaries - Canadian Baptist Seminary, MB Seminary, Northwest Seminary, and Trinity Western Seminary - each bringing a unique history and approach to their love for Jesus and their desire to live out the gospel in the church and the world. As a student at ACTS, you have access to a broader range of resources than any one seminary could offer independently.

Mission

Our mission as the Associated Canadian Theological Schools of Trinity Western University is to develop godly servant leaders who have a love and burden for people based on a strong commitment to Jesus Christ, the Word of God, and the ministry of the church, who will energetically strengthen, revitalize and actively multiply communities of effectively ministering believers in Canada and around the world.

Vision

  • Affirm, live under and promote the authority of the Bible as God’s Word, producing graduates who are competent to read, interpret, apply and communicate Scripture.

  • Develop leaders who understand and uphold the convictions and distinctions of their faith tradition, applying them effectively in whatever work God has called them to.

  • Equip graduates to address competently the Canadian cultural mosaic, reaching it with the gospel.

  • Train pastors, global workers, teachers, evangelists, counselors and other vocational and non-vocational Christian leaders to have a transforming vision for ministry in their communities and around the world.

  • Foster excellent thinking, writing and speaking skills that enable students to make a significant contribution to Christian scholarship.

Values

The members of ACTS Seminaries are wholeheartedly committed to historic orthodox Christianity as expressed by the statements of faith of Trinity Western University and the denominations represented by our member seminaries. These shared values shape and maximize cooperation within the ACTS partnership.

The Word of God

We hold a common commitment to the Bible as authoritative over our teaching and life. Our educational programs emphasize applying the scriptures to our daily personal and interpersonal behavior as well as our ministry calling.

Transformation

God calls us to holiness. This involves bringing our personal and corporate life into conformity with the mind of Christ, challenging us to love God and serve others. ACTS expects graduate students preparing for Christian ministry to consistently grow in their conformity to Christ as they prepare to lead others on this same path. Our Community Covenant expresses the commitment of our faculty, staff and students to pursue holiness as we live and learn together.

Collaboration

ACTS is a multi-denominational partnership committed to working collaboratively with one another. This makes ACTS a welcoming place to study for students from any denomination. We are committed to theological education for effective, relevant ministry in any context where God calls Christian women and men to serve.

Community

ACTS students represent a variety of traditions and points of view within the broad context of the Evangelical Protestant faith. In fact, about half the student body comes from denominations other than the four that support our seminaries directly. Living and learning in a community with those who are different from ourselves but who love Jesus is an amazing experience.

Accreditation

ACTS Seminaries is accredited by the Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools (10 Summit Park Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15275, USA, 412-788-6505, www.ats.edu). Degree programs accredited by the Commission on Accrediting include the Master of Arts (with majors in Christian Studies, Christian Leadership, Global Christian Leadership, Chaplaincy, Christian Worldview Studies, Linguistics and Translation), Master of Christian Studies in Marriage and Family Therapy, Master of Divinity, Master of Theological Studies, Master of Theology, Doctor of Ministry.

As partners with Trinity Western University and as a fully accredited member of the Association of Theological Schools, the programs offered through ACTS Seminaries meet the same high standards as university graduate education. You experience the best of both worlds – an academic university education and a practical seminary education. Your degree is granted co-jointly by Trinity Western University and the seminary in which you are enrolled.

A highlight being here at ACTS, specifically in the Marriage and Family Therapy Program was this idea of never feeling alone. I remember this particular memory of being in our ethics program and how difficult the topics were. But when the class ended, we all congregated in the cafeteria and we were discussing how that class impacted us. My highlight of that time was how I never felt alone in that program.
